QuestionMy cat has a swollen stomach and it hurts to the touch. I can't afford x-rays at the vet. Have you ever seen or heard of this before?
Please help,
Emily
AnswerHave you taken your cat to the vet for an exam? I was looking through my book and i found only one explanation i could be wrong but i'll tell you anyway, I strongly suggest you talk to a lincense vet though.
Peritonitis: Bloat is the main characteristic of this insidious, chronic, and often fatal disease. There is a gradual accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, sometimes in the thorax, and the abdomen begins to swell, giving a potbellied appearance. While it is easy to diagnose, there is no effective treatment or prevention. The diagnose consists of a laboratory examination of the blood. But unfortunaly the germs are resistent to most antibiotics. This is painful, debilitating disease, and the majority of cats will not survive. Ok the book i have is very old and with new technology there may be something you can do, I strongly recomend you to talk to your veterinarian.
