pregnant cat found but no movement by fetuses

There was a cat abandoned in a box at our local store.  We have taken her in until we can get her to either the SPCA or another agency.  We are concerned that her kittens are dead.  My partner has had cats which had kittens and said you should be able to feel the kittens move.  If the kittens are dead, will the cat be ok?  I read where they are reabsorbed by the mother.  She has at least 5 kittens in her.

If the kittens are dead they will kill the mother cat. They do not get reabsorbed. You need to get her checked to make sure they are dead. 5 kits dead in the mom is pretty rare. You just may not be seeing the movements. Have a vet check her. Good luck.
