jumping up on perilous places, etc.

I'd like to get a cat but I have a lot of valuable stereo and computer equipment on tall shelves.  I'm afraid of the cat jumping up on those places and knocking down my valuables.  Is there anyway you can teach them not to do this immediately so that it never happens?

Hi, if you ever see your cat do this give him/hem a ferm no if he still desides to do this get an empty windex bottle or enything that can spray and fill it with water and a few sqirts if lemon, and then if your cat goes again on the shelves give him/her a spry and this should work.THANKS!!!!
