Hi, I had to give my two cats away that I had for about a year & 1/2 and I'm just wondering how cats think.  It makes me so heartbroken when I think about them and what they think about me giving them up.  I don't want them to feel abandoned at all.  I did give them to a really good home and we exchanged numbers to keep in touch.  I just called today to see how the cats are adjusting and he said that one adjusted fine but the other one would not come out of the basement for 2 days...which was the one that I was attached to the most.  Can cats get sad?  It just hurts so much to think about that...

Yes, cats get separation anxiety, but, being practical creatures that they are, they find it fairly easy to bond with other humans and get on with the business of living life to the fullest.

I would give the cats a week to adjust and they should be fine together with the new family.
