18 yr old siamese

yesterday i put to sleep my siamese who would have been 19 on march 5th.  she had gotten weak, ate very little, slept all day and was basically blind and deaf.  up until 2 mnths ago she seemed contented but then she became very confused.  did i do the right thing?  i feel sick about it?

Hi there.  I'm so sorry to hear you're going through such a difficult time.  When a cat's appetite begins to suffer, it's a sign that she's feeling pretty poorly.  Sometimes a blood test will reveal why, and treatment can solve the problem, but considering your kitty's age and additional health problems, then the kindest thing may have been to do as you did - to help her pass into a peaceful sleep where she will suffer no more pain or confusion.  

I know you feel sick about the decision you had to make.  The worst part of pet ownership is having to make this final decision, and they so heavily rely on us to be strong and selfless here.  I thank you for facing it courageously for her sake.  The circle of life can't be stopped,  but you have made it less painful for your beloved girl.  I hope you will take comfort in that.
