crying

my kittens are about a week old and i was wondering if it was typical for them to cry while feeding? there are 5 of them so i figured that they're just quarreling over a tit or something. but i'm not positive.

I would suggest that you have mom and babies examined by the vet to make sure that the kittens are getting enough to eat and that mom is producing milk and letting it down. The kittens being vocal and antsy could mean that mom is not letting her milk down or she may not have any or enough milk or she may have mastitis and not be able to nurse her little ones in which case you may have to step in with formula. They may be scrappy kittens too and just be fighting over a preferred teat, but it is always a safe bet to check with the vet to make sure that she has enough milk and that the kittens are growing as they should.
