Cat is whining due to being ingorged after 8 weeks

Question
My momma cat had 5 kittens 8 weeks ago and all her kittens were put up for adoption. Her teats are getting hard and shes whining alot. Her kittens were eating regular cat food and drinking water and would only nurse once a day. How can I help my momma cat from being uncomfortable since her kittens are not here to nurse or should I let her be and dry up on her own? Please help, all she does is walk around here whining looking for kittens.

Answer
Kim,

She is more looking for the kittens than whining about the milk.  The milk will harden (pack up), and, after a couple of weeks,  she will reabsorb it.  The old timey cat books recommended putting olive oil on the teats and using warm compresses.  We do none of that and the mamas do just fine.

She will get over the whining.  BTW, 8 weeks, really is too young for new kittens to go to their new homes.  We recommend 12 weeks at a minimum.

Best regards... Norm.
