cat not cuddly

Question
We adopted an orange tabby from the local Humane society.  He was 4 months old at adoption so he is about 10 months old now.  He was very cuddly for the first couple of weeks, during which time he was very sick.  Once we nursed him back to health he quickly became less cuddly.  We also have a 3 year old Jack Russell terrier, and they get along decently.  The dog plays a little too much and the cat is sometimes not happy with the dog, but overall there are no big fights and they do not hate each other.  The problem is the cat is not affectionate.  He is nice in the mornings, but once the sun is up he is not interested in being pet, held or cuddled.  When we do capture him and cuddle him he growls, holds his ears flat and acts completely ticked off.  When he is not force-cuddled he is never far away, and always walks around with his tail straight up.  We let him outside at night, and he comes home when we call him before bed.  He also follows us outside if we walk anywhere and is very loyal.  Why won't he cuddle with us?  What can we do to make him more affectionate?  Please help, as we feel he likes everything except us.

Answer
Don`t feel guilty,  you didnt do anything to cause him to be less cuddly.  Some breeds of cats just arent cuddly,  no matter what you do or how pampered you make them they just won`t have people cuddling them.  That`s just the way it is,  cats have personalities just like people.  The only thing that I worry about is that you said he gets force-cuddled.  I`m not thinking that you are abusing the cat,  but just telling you to keep in mind that if he doesnt like to be cuddled and you do it anyway,  then he may stop cuddling all together, and not do it again.  Cats have excellent memories and will associate cuddling with negativity and stop cuddling all together.
