I've got a very large cat of indiscernible breed who always tries getting out at bedtime and I was wondering if he might have a route he always follows when he leaves the house or if its likely he just wanders. Where would a typical housecat go when they are not in the house?

This is a great question, but I do not have a good answer.

I would assume that cats, being creatures of habit, and, being very territorial, would tend to patrol their territory in a very methodical way.

I do not know if anyone has ever tried to follow a cat on its nightly sojourns, so I can only give you my surmisal.
