is the smell from cat feces and urine poisonious?

i know someone who has 2 children sleeping in the same room, also, they have 3 cats, they keep the cat litter box in their bedroom, is this safe?

Hi Joan,

A lot depends on how clean they keep the litter box and where in the bedroom its kept.  If its kept clean and its in a bathroom off the bedroom that wouldn't be a problem, and I wouldn't be concerned with the smell as much as any bacteria that might be transferred to the children and their bedding and clothes.  A lot depends, too, on how old these children are, are they teenagers or toddlers who might get into the litter to "play?"  I think there are better places to put the litter box than in a bedroom, for various reasons, and I would put it in a laundry room or bathroom.
