cat lost her baby

Question
My outside cat, who usually runs when you try to pet her, recently had a kitten, and now wants attention all the time.  When the baby was born we left it alone, but I have read on the Internet that you should get baby used to human contact, so we kept giving the baby attention, but still keeping it where the mother could keep an eye on it. one day, we were all outside, and she just took the baby and hid it. we found it a few minutes later and brought it back to the mother.  Now she hid it somewhere a few days ago and we cannot find it.  Baby is only 12 days old, and it seems like the mother forgot where she put it.  Could the mother have gotten jealous and killed her baby???

Answer
Absolutely!  Outdoor cats are often times not good mothers.  Most kittens born in the wild suffer and die before they are 3 months old.  Please do your part to ending the misery and find someone who will help you trap that cat and get her fixed!  There are always low-cost options available.
