Question
Hi Barb,
I used to breed and show Siamese, but have been out of that particular aspect of cat ownership for several years.  I still have one former show cat, who is now approaching 15 years of age.  I used to get all the annual shots, including FeLV, as well as the usual rabies and upper respiratory vaccines.  Recently I have heard that many people have stopped getting the regular vaccinations, or at least skipping to every 2nd year, because of an apparent link between some shots and cancers.  How do you feel about this?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Debbie,

I don't get my cats shots anymore, as they are strictly indoor cats, and they too, are getting older.  The vets say we should, but that might be because of the money.  I have pretty much decided against doing it every year, and maybe not again.  My cats are only 11 years old, but never go outside, so maybe every couple years or so would be enough.  I hope that helps.  I do have a friend who is also a vet.  I will ask her and see if she has a differing opinion.  She might tell me straight as a friend, and not as a vet looking to get paid.  If she has any words of wisdom on that subject, I will write you again.  I will just keep this letter so I can do that.  Hugs, Barb
