Question
Please can you help us, we have two siamese and one havana, we were hoping to pick p a sphynx on friday, we chose a boy becuase the neuterting procedure its much easier, however one of his testicles has not dropped, he is now three months old and we are worried about the medicakl procedure.  we hope that this testicle drops before he his six months old, is this likely?

Answer
Hi Jacques.  Most of the time, if the testicle were going to descend, it would have done so by the age of 8 weeks, but there are always late bloomers.  I have not personally seen any kitties whose testicles have dropped after the age of 4 months, but vets do advise to give up to 9 months for this to happen.

However, I have had a few cats with cryptorchidism (the name of this condition), and the surgery has never been as involved as the vets warned it may be.  With my cats, the testicles were always tucked up JUST outside the scrotum, and so the vets were still able to remove them through incisions in the scrotum as they would with a normal neuter procedure.  If the testicle is fully retained, an incision in the groin may be necessary.
