Bengal cats

Question
Hello,
We are interested in buying two female Bengal kittens and we are on the understanding that they are indoor cats. This is fine as we live near a main road and will be looking to build a run for them. But we have been told from work colleagues that keeping a cat locked up is cruel. What is your opinion on this as we wouldn't want to keep them like this if it is wrong.
Thanks for your help

Answer
Wendy & Len,

With all due respect, your work colleagues know nothing about cats if they think keeping them indoors is cruel.  On the contrary, letting them out with predators, automobiles, and people is much, much more cruel.  Indoor cats tend to live 12-15 years, whereas outdoors cats tend to live 3-5 years.

Cats live in all three dimensions, so your cat will utilize all available volume of your household.  To help this, you can get a sturdy, stable exercise post with lots of height, cubby holes and/or shelves.  One of these can be placed near a window where the cats can enjoy hours of watching the great outdoors.

Our cats never go outdoors and reputable breeders do not sell to people who let their cats go outside!

Best regards... Norm.
