Cat licking its rectum

Hi,

Our cat started licking its rectum yesterday. He does so every hour about 2-3 times an hour?

Do you have any input?

All cats lick their bottoms. Its part of their cleaning routine and they will do so after using the litter box or if they have any other feeling why they should. If he seems fixated on licking his bottom then he may be having a problem. He could be experiencing some inflammation or pain which can come from any number of issues. He could have an issue with anal gland secretion that he is cleaning but it could be something more. To sort out what it is, if he is overly licking and continues it, see your vet please. If there is anything more significant to it, it will need vet attention.
