Question
I haven't done it yet, but need another home for my cat. I have talked to my boyfriend about taking her in his apartment, but he is afraid his cat and my cat (two females) will not get along. I was wondering what is the best way to go about getting them to get along?

Answer
Jennifer,

If you take your time and integrate your cat slowly at your boyfriend's house I see no reason why it can't work. You will need to isolate your cat behind a closed door for at least 2-3 weeks. When the resident cat is okay about smelling your cat through the door then supervised introductions can take place. Cats take time to get to know each other so patience is key. If you are both willing to work at it there is no reason why the two cats can't get along. The key to this being successful is the slow, patient introductions. Play is also sometimes a useful tool to help get over the initial issues that may arise. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me further. Also you may want to look at past answers in my file as I have given detailed information on a few occasions about the best way to introduce two cats that don't know each other. Good luck!
