Question
MY KITTEN WAS SPAYED BY THE TIME SHE WAS 3 MONTHS OLD.  SHE IS NOW 9 MONTHS OLD.  SHE HAS THIS HUGE POUCH OF EXCESS SKIN ON HER BELLY.  IS THIS SKIN THAT SHE WILL GROW INTO.  I AM NOT SURE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NORMAL.

Answer
Hi Lyza,

If this is loose skin then it is something she'll probably grow into, although some cats retain that loose, flappy skin throughout their adult years.  I'm just surprised it happened at such a young age.  Did she maybe grow quickly and then lose weight?  At this age I would think it would tighten up at least somewhat.
If it is a small hard nodule right at the sight of her incision it may be a hernia and should be checked out by a vet.  I've had cats that came to me with hernias that resolved themselves but they can become "strangled" in which they cut off the blood flow to the intestines.  That can be dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.
