Two new cats

Question
My friend and I are going to live together next year and we both want to get cats.  We are planning to adopt from a local shelter.  What is the best way to find two cats that will be able to live comfortable together?  Will we encounter many problems getting them to adjust to living with new people and a new cat?

Answer
Holly,

It might be a good idea to hold off on the idea of getting your cats until you move in together. That way you can get a pair of cats that should be adopted into the same home or you could opt for a couple of kittens from the same litter. Those are your best chances for letting everyone be peaceful and comfortable in your home without anyone feeling jealous or left out because they're locked up in a room during the appropriate isolation period that it would take to properly introduce two cats that aren't friends.
