Question
i have 2 cats. ages 13 and 15. it is time for their annual vaccinations. sadi and micah are strictly indoor cats and are very healthy for their ages.  i am concerned about the stress on the cats to take them to the vet---they usually deficate or urinate on the exam table, hiss, bite, basically "freak out" and then hide under the bed for days upon returning home...is this more harmful than productive for their general health...would it be more beneficial to give them the shots at home...how do i go about this???thank you for any info...staci

Answer
Hi Staci!

its up to you wether or not you want to continue vaccines. Many cats do not need to continue the FVRCP (distemper vax) or leukemia vax if they are indoors only and have no contact with any other cats other than each other. Any vet that trys to sell you a FELV vaccine for those cats in that circumstance is just getting you for $.

Rabies is usually state required.  But go ahead and speak to your vet about the vaccines. ALL cats especially senior ones should have yearly bloodwork and a urinalysis  run.

good luck!
