QuestionAbout how long should a cat be in labor? What would be an indication that she would need to be taken to a vet?
AnswerHi Dawn,
Cats can be in labor for up to 24 hours. If it has been longer than a 24 hour period, a vet visit is definitely necessary. If more than one hour passes between kittens, a vet visit is necessary, as this would indicate that a kitten may be stuck in the birth canal. If your cat refuses to eat, is lethargic or has green vaginal discarge, this would indicate a severe uteran infection and a vet visit would be needed. Any vomiting or anything out of the ordinary for your cat would cause concern and a vet visit would be necessary.
I hope this helps! Good luck with mamma cat and the babies. If you have time, please let me know how she does!
