English Bulldog - Pudgy

Question
I have a healthy bulldog, but he has an itch problem on his back and around his tail. Sometimes at night, he will wake up to scratch. I don't see any irritation or redness, We feed him Pedigree dry food everyday and mix a 1/3 can of Pedigree wet food every other day. We live in Denver, which has very little humidity.

Is this common? I also have two pugs that scratch occasionally, but nowhere near the bulldog. In my opinion, the problem hasn't been bad enough to take him to the Vet, but if you suggest a doctor visit, I will take him in. I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Thank you,

Answer
Many Bulldogs get a tail fold pyoderma (an infection where the tail skin folds)and that makes them itch. If that is the case, there are antibiotics that can help or sometimes we do a little surgical procedure to straighten out the fold. Check with your vet to find out why the dog is scratching and what can be done about it.
