Answer
A urine sample should be checked for underlying infection and crystals as well as a complete blood count to look for anemia (blood loss), platelet problems (low numbers cause bleeding) or elevated white blood counts (sign of infection).   Certainly a course of antibiotics is indicated first off, and if the blood counts are normal and this happens again, then x-rays should be done to check for bladder stones.   With him being 10 years old, there is always a possibility of bladder cancer, but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion first off without doing any testing.
