Question
Hi, there are two small stray kittens living in a wood behind my home. I want to keep them. They seem to have sores on their stomachs, and are loaded with fleas. One is solid black and as I live in the city, I'm scared for its safety because of mean kids.  Aside from the obvious physical exam and rabies vaccines, what else should I do so I can bring them into my home as soon as possible? And so I know if I'm being very over-charged, how much SHOULD it all cost (roughly)?

Answer
Costs depend on what is being done.  If they are kittens, they need to be checked for worms, and tested for feline leukemia virus.  They need a series of 2 or 3 shots for upper respiratory diseases and Feline Leukemia.  If they have fleas, they may need to be bathed and you should use Advantage Top Spot to keep the fleas off. If they need deworming that may be more.  I would guess that in my Alabama practice, this would cost you about $225 for both kittens.
