Chihuahua back pain

Question
We have a chihuahua that has chronic back pain.  He throws out his back often (he will be 9 in February) and we don't like to give him pain medication unless neccessary.  Recently we think he has arthritis because he has a tough time moving in the morning.  He weighs 7 lbs and is in good health otherwise.  Should we be giving him aspirin?  and how much should we be giving him at 7 lbs.?

Answer
Aspirin is one thing you really don't want to give him. I would get some Zuprin or Duramaxx from the vets for pain. These are made for dogs and are less likely to cause major stomach ulcers, which just ONE aspirin will cause. I saw a seminar on pain meds for dogs and was amazed at how much damage one aspirin can do to their stomach lining.
So get the meds from the vet and give him the recommended dose that the vet tells you. You surely don't want your little dude to be in pain but this way you can give him safe relief.
