Question
Hi there,
Thanks in advance for providing this service!  I really do appreciate it.  Just briefly I must mention that I recently got laid off, and am absolutely strapped for cash, therefore visiting a vet isn't possible for me.  I switched my cat from whiskas indoor cat formula (which I've fed him since I got him a yr ago) to whiskas weight management since he was overeating so much.  Since I've done that he's puked twice for the past two days.  I did research and found out you are supposed to wean the cat onto the new food slowly.  Could this be when he's been puking?  I am so worried, please help!  Thank you!

Answer
It could very well be the reason he is sick. You are just going to have to let it settle into his stomach and see how it goes. I never would recommend any dry food from the grocery store because it wastes your money.

One of the reasons your cat overeats is because he cannot get his energy requirements met with the cheaper food. It's a little like you trying to get a pound of beef protein out of a box of saltine crackers.
It is just not going to happen. So to make up for the lack of nutrition in the food, the cat keeps eating hoping to satisfy that inner need.
He eats way too much and gets fat. That is why 40% of all pets are obese.

If you want to help your cat and your budget, then get him onto some Science Diet sensitive stomach or just Adult Light formula and after three weeks his food consumption will go down and down. It takes three weeks for the bad diet to be chased out by the good one but after the transition you will be saving a lot of money because your cat food will last twice as long,as long as you feed it according to the package and not just free feed him.
You can put out about a half a cup twice a day once he is done switching, but the bag will tell you how to switch it over slowly. The reason his food consumption will go down is his energy needs will be met with a much smaller amount of food. His stool will also be smaller because this food is so highly digestible that there isn't much waste.

Believe me, you pay more at first for the food but you WILL see a difference in three weeks or your money is refunded 100% by Hills.

It's a win-win situation and I have never had an owner take food back in 27 yrs.

Instead of going to Starbucks or whatever your splurge is on you- save it this time for a bag of Science Diet Light and you will not be sorry.
Let me know how he does and what you decide to do. You only have money to save!!
