Question
Hi, My Bichone dog named Snoopy (7Yrs) was diagnosed with Cushings and Diabetes last September and after all the tests he has to take 10 units of Lente insulin a day and one tablet of Ventoryl 30mg a day. Last week I rushed to the vet to tell them he was peeing a lot more and he had gone blind.  She told me the sight was cateracts and that was due to the diabetes. However she did another blood test and his sugar level is off the scale again. He is booked in for a full curve again ect for 24 hours the day after tomorrow (Tues) however, today he will not eat or drink anything and he keeps going into a shaking spasm if i try to tempt him with food or drink and if he moves about a lot, i am really really worried, do you think it may be best to stop his suffering or carry on trying to fight this, it is nearly a year since he was diagnosed but i was told a dog with cushings has a shorter lifespan than normal.  Snoopy does have a brother from the same litter with us too (Dylan) will he also get all these ailments.  These dogs are sole pets and my life, i do not breed and have no intention of breeding them either,. thankyou.

Answer
Oh christine:  I am so sorry about your Snoppy.  You are a wonderful mom!  You need to think of Snoopy's quality of life????  If you feel that his life and routine is positive and fullfilled, then keep on going with the treatments.  Look at his life - A day to day look:  What do you think?  Is he suffering at all???  Sounds to me like his quality is fair to poor.  This is from what I read in your note.

You are the only one who can decide for Snoopy.  YOU are his eyes and ears -  BEST wishes on this.  I know it is hard for you.

I will be thinking of you.
Sounds like Snoopy may need some vet Help ASAP, and may not be stable
enough to make it until Tuesday.
