Please help!!

My kitten is six months old with a very serious problem. She, Gigi, is fed Special Kitty kitten food & eats normal & drink her water normally each & every day. But for the past few weeks, she has had a very sore, irritated, & red anus. She goes to the cat box more often than anything & whenever she is picked up, or stretches, or pretty much anything, she leaks poop out her butt. It's becoming a really bad problem. I've given her worm medication before, & nothing changed. She's very friendly & loves attention, so there's nothing wrong with her behavior, but she is clearly in pain. I currently have three litter boxes for my two cats & they all fill up so quickly just from the two of them, mainly Gigi. I'm not sure what to do anymore. This has to stop. What can I get her or do to have her healthy again?

Also, my other cat, Bella, who is a year & a half, is having a similar problem so I think it was passed on slightly. While Gigi's anus is severely irritated, Bella's is fine but seems to be open a lot & she lets out a lot of horrible smelling gas. Bella nor Gigi have had any vaccinations besides a rabies shot that was given to Gigi.

It sounds like your kitty needs to be on a different diet. This one is irritating her and causing some pretty severe problems if she cannot hold her stool.

Special Kitty food is basically junk food from the store. You need to get her on a better quality diet and we recommend Science Diet Kitten Growth. The reason for this is that grocery store foods are filled with artificial flavors, colors and preservatives as well as low quality ingredients all which can irritate the digestive system of a cat that is sensitive to them.

Special kitty is from the Wal-mart/Mars manufacturers of the pet foods that killed hundreds of cats and dogs from their tainted ingredients that they imported from China. That alone should make you not to ever want to feed this food at all.
The ingredients in this food are of the lowest quality availble and there is no quality control. Companies like this just buy whatever is cheaper on the docks that day and that's what goes into the batches of food. Food you are buying at Wal-mart or the grocery store.
Here are some of the ingredients in this food. Read the last one about animal digest.

   * Ground Yellow Corn
   * Corn Gluten Meal
   * Chicken By-Products
   * Ground Wheat
   * Animal Digest

Ground Yellow Corn:same as ground corn, except that the corn used is yellow in color.

Corn Gluten Meal:the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch and germ, and the separation of the bran by the process employed in the wet milling manufacture of corn starch or syrup, or by enzymatic treatment of the endosperm.

Chicken By-Products:consists of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.

Ground Wheat:presumably a coarser grind of wheat flour. Not an AAFCO definition.

Animal Digest:material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and un-decomposed animal tissue. The animal tissues used shall be exclusive of hair, horns, teeth, hooves and feathers, except in such trace amounts as might occur unavoidably in good factory practice and shall be suitable for animal feed.

The problem is that these companies just basically use the cheapest and the worst. Why would you want to feed your precious cats food that consists of digested bodies that are broken down by chemicals? Not my animals!!

So the problem you have here is a terrible diet. The solution is to throw out all but one cup of this food, or feed it to the strays outside, and then mix it daily with a bag of Science Diet Kitten Growth that you will buy at a Pet store, Petsmart, Feed store or your vets. Then you mix the two foods over a course of 7 days until she is totally on the Science Diet only.

That will prevent her from getting any more diarrhea and will stop the irritation of her little anus. Now, if she is a manx kitty, which you did not say she was, then her problem could be related to not having good nerve conduction on the last vertabrea in her spine. So I am going to assume that she isn't a manx or short-tailed cat and that this is diet related. Most of these problems are.

So get the Kitten Growth and no, do not buy Kitten Chow by Purina. That is coated with cow's milk and will even make her sicker. Do not feed her any milk, cheese, or human food at all. You can mix some baby rice cereal into some Science Diet canned Kitten growth for a few days to help clear up her stool but I think you will find it clears up on its own.

Your adult cat also needs to be removed from this awful food and put on Science Diet Light Adult formula.
She will do much better as well.

As for Bella, she is having problems with gas and the same issues due to the same bad food. If these cats have not been treated for other types of parasites they could have those as well. Both of these cats need to be vaccinated for leukemia and the three major respiratory infections that even indoor cats can get.
