Itchy skin after grooming

Question
My 2-year-old female Havanese was recently groomed. The groomer shaved her and ever since then she has been increasingly itchy. She bites and licks her legs mostly, but there is a spot on her back where the fur is getting thin from her biting and licking. What could have caused this, and is there a particular product I can use (shampoo, cream, etc.) to ease the itching?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
When dogs itch after grooming, it is usually a reaction to the type of shampoo.  Many dogs are allergic to shampoos that comtain animal fats and proteins.  Ask your vet for a hypoallergenic shampoo that contains only vegetable derived fats and proteins.  There is a spray called Genesis, available from your vet, that might help relieve the temporary itchiness.
