Question
Diva, our 12 yr old border/collie cross, developed a shaking problem 4-6 mths ago. at first it looked like she was "on a nerve", but it has worsened since. any idea what this might be?
thankyou.

Answer
Shaking can be a sign of neuromuscular weakness or disease or also a sign of pain in a different body system.  Degenerative myelopathy is a reduction of nerve function that can cause tremors.  Hip dysplasia can cause pain and weakness as well with signs such as shaking.  Have she been examine by your veterinarian? If so what were their findings?  If not I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian so that they can do a physical and neurological examination. It may be worthwhile for them to try corticosteroids to see if these help in case of the shaking being a pain response.

My sincere apologies for the delayed response.  Please feel free to write back with any examination findings that I may help answer questions on.
