Question
I have a 7 yr old chocolate lab he has swelling on his ear. It feels like a small bag of water 3-4" on the flap of his ear. Should I take him to an ER vet or will the swelling go down? Its not draining and does not seem to be hurting or irritating him.

Answer
Hi Cliff:  Well, he could have been bit by a spider or another type of bug.  If that is the case then some benadryl will help.
You can give (2) 25 mg of Benadryl and see if it helps.  If it works then you know it was a reaction to something.

If not, then it could be a hematoma ( filled with blood) and you will need to see the VET for drainage.  Don't try anything else at this point if the Benadryl did not work... OK
