deep leg wound

Question
Recently my 3 yr. old american bulldog returned home with a fairly small but deep leg wound on his right rear leg just below the knee.I stopped the bleeding, which was pretty bad, and peroxided and gaused and taped the wound.Pleas e email me back and let me know if something further should be done to prevent infection and heeling.

Hi Jason:  You did well in cleaning the area and the wrap.  I would still get this boy to the vet.  There could be matter inside the deep wound that would need to be flushed out.  If not, there will be major infection that can travel to the blood.

Because you say it was deep, you need to have a professional take a look at this.  The vet may want you to have him on an antibiotic for a week or so.



Sorry, I wish that I could give you an easy over-the-counter answer...
You just need to make that vet visits.
