mini pin has a small lump on side

Question
I have a 6 yr. old mini pin (female) that is a little over weight and I just noticed a small lump on her right side. The location of this bump is hard to describe.  It is on the side of her body about 4 inches from the lowest part of her ear. It seems to project outward as she walks, since it is above her right arm.The lump is hard and does not seem to hurt my dog when i pet her in that area.  Although when I pick her up under her arms to hold her she is obviously in pain.  Unfortunately, the vet that we used to take her to, has retired and unfortunately we do not have a vet we truly trust.  I am very scared and would appreciate your feed back as soon as possible.

Thank you very much,

Kathy

Answer
Kathy,
Most tumors, especially on overweight dogs, are lipomas, or fatty tumors.
That doesn't mean they should be ignored, but they are not the nasty, crazy spreading lumps like other cancers.

I would have it checked out to be sure- and in the area you are describing it should be removed.

Ask your old vet to recommend a vet that he trusts.
That might help. There are plenty of vets out there that would be happy to have a new client. Ask your friends for recommendations also.
