older dog panting, excessively after a cortisone injection for arthritic pain

Question
Hi, I have a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel who I brought to the vet Saturday (2.5 days ago). She was not using her right back leg to walk. It was joint pain - thinking an arthritic type flare up. She was given a cortisone shot and she has been panting excessively all evening and night. Could this be side effect or is there a problem?

Answer
Panting can be a sign of pain, or from the cortisone injection. Cortisone can increase thirst and appetite also.

I would call the vet today and ask them about it. Was she given other pain medicines such as Duramaxx to go with it?

My other question is: was she panting like this the night she got the injection or is this something new 2 and a half days later?

If so, you need to call the veterinarian.
