Question
My female beagle would not eat this morning (unheard of) and her stomach is very active.  You can hear her stomach churning, squishing and all those other noises.  Any advice?  I should add that she and our other beagle went crazy last night chasing a scent around the yard.  They usually only do this when we take them for a walk at the golf course and they stumble across a rabbit.  I don't think she caught and ate whatever they smelled, but I can't be sure.  Also, poop seams normal and I couldn't see anywhere in the yard where she got sick.

Thanks for your help,
Robert

Answer
Hi there!  I have to say, I am a bit concerned.  Have you ever heard of "bloat"?  "Bloat" is where the intestines fill with fluid and often times twist.  Symptoms are not eating, active stomach and vomiting a foamy type substance.  If your dog's stomach seems to look bloated and she begins to vomit, I would get her to your veterinarian immediately for surgical intervention.
If she is not vomiting and does not appear bloated, she may have gotten into something that hasn't agreed with her and probably will feel better later in the day.  How is she acting otherwise?  Is she as active as normal?  Drinking?  Lethargic?  If she seems lethargic, is behaving oddly, drinking more than usual, she may have gotten into something toxic.  I would definately keep an eye on her for the remainder of the day.  If she begins eating toward the afternoon and appears normal, her upset stomach probably has seized and she is over it.  If you see any of the symptoms I have listed above, taking her to the vet as soon as possible would be the best.
I hope this has been helpful and please keep me posted,
Hilary
