cat gets shakey and disoriented

Question
I have a 1 year old neutered male dsh cat. Once a couple of months ago and once again 2 weeks ago he became "wobbly". He walked sort of sideways. He could not jump from the coffee table to the couch without falling. He seemed disoriented. He let me hold him (which he normally does not like) His rear legs trembled while being held. I took him to the vet first time it happened but symptoms had subsided and nothing was found. Symptoms are worse the first day and gone within 3 days. Any ideas? Vertigo? Am I seeing the after effects of a seizure that happens when I am sleeping or not at home? Thanks for any advise.

Answer
Hi Linda.  There is definately something going on here with your cat.  It could be vertigo, it could be the after effects of a seizure, or even something as simple as an inner ear infection.  It could also be due to low blood sugar levels.  I would definately suggest some diagnostic procedures.  The first being blood work to be sure all of his values are normal.  If something is not normal, value wise, testing would go accordingly.  If everything is normal, a neurologist may be needed since it definately sounds as though something neurological is going on.
I wish I could be of more help.  The list of possibilities of what this could be is just too broad to pinpoint.
Please keep me posted!
