Question
QUESTION: My little female cairn terrier has been coughing, hacking bad lately.  I figured it was a collapsing trachea.  She also has a disc that is totally gone in her neck.  She was a puppy mill dog and badly abused.  Her coughing/honking is horrid, and I'm so worried about her.  I've been into herbs and natural healing, but I'm at a loss for a formula of what to give her.  PawHealer.com has a chinese formula that is expensive!  I have her on good food, Nutro Ultra, with salmon, essential fatty acids, etc.  She is a bit overweight, I will work on that.  I live in alabama, tons of allergies, pollen here, I take herbs everyday myself for it.  But it's a dry, unproductive cough.  Can you point me to the right herbs for her, or a combo I can give her?  I am worried sick, it's getting worse.  I give her flax seed oil, a little olive oil, brewers yeast with garlic tabs, and siberian ginseng.  Anything you can do to help is very appreciated! I am desperate to help my sweet little baby girl.  Thanks, Shauna

QUESTION: Marie, thanks so much.  I was tired and stressed yesterday I forgot to tell you it was confirmed at vet that she has collapsable trachea.  Being disabled myself, and being into herbs for so many years, I knew I needed to treat the cause and not the symtoms, the vet recommended cough syrup & claritan, some help!    I am ordering what you said, and praying this helps my baby, she's a sweetheart, and deserves a good life after that puppy mill.  She's 11, so I guess she's had that good life for 9 yrs, but I'm not ready to give up on her.  I'll let you know how it goes here in a week or so.  should I see the coughing easing up relatively soon?  Thanks, Shauna

ANSWER: Yes, YOUR dog is lucky to have you.  Poor kid living in a PUPPY Mill...
You can also start with some Robitussin, while you wait for the Liquid and the NuVET ---
See here for dosages, Very helpful
( the cough may never go away 100% ) it's part of her anatomy now.
Just make sure you get the Raised Feeding Dishes.  ( It will help)
Robitussin:  ( ASK your VET about the Robitussin)

Cough Suppressant:  Robitussin DM

Robitussin Dm, Benylin Expectorant (destromethorphan) or Siltussin DM (Silarx) - Look for products containing Guaifenesin (100mg) and Dextromethorphan. While these products are not approved for veterinary use by the FDA they are common practice in the veterinary community.

Dosage:(10mg) per teaspoonful .5mg to 1 mg per pound (or 1 teaspoon per 20 pounds) orally every 6 hours.
*****

The dose for Robitussin DM in small dogs is 1/2 teaspoon every 4 hours. The usual dose in large dogs is 1 teaspoonful every 4 hours.

Side effects:Number 1 side effect is sleepiness. If your dog shows other symptoms such as dry heaves and shows changes in behavior such as lethargic behavior, take your dog to the Emergency Room or veterinarian as soon as possible.

QUESTION: Yes he gave us the syringe of the correct amount to give her.  The coughing is because they cannot breathe due to the trachea closing, so I would expect the coughing to ease up?

Answer
Yes, it will " ease up " but may never go away totally.  The Weight loss formula will also help her - order the sample and see if she like it.
She needs to get rid of some of that weight, it will help to reduce pressure on the abdomen which in turn, places pressure on the trachea, too.

Blessings to you.
Give everything a good Month to kick in... NATURAL takes some time to build a blood level.
