Question
Hello! An answer to your question:

Hello - I have been told my cat has asthma (He gurgles ONLY when he purrs).  I question that, but before I spend $300 to see a Heart Specialist, I bought Clear Lungs by Ridgecrest Herbals. I have heard rave reviews about this product. My concern is whether the ingredients are OK to give to a cat, and will not cause harm.  Of course, I will cut down the dose for my cat to 1/4 capsule or maybe even less at first.  The ingredients are:  ClearLungs herbal blend 500mg/cap: dong quai root, poria sclerotium, ophiopogon root, stemona root, chinese asparagus root, tangerine mature peel, zhejiang fritillary bulb, gardenia fruit, white mulberry root bark, platycodon root, chinese skullcap root, schisandra fruit, chinese licorice root. Human dose is 2 capsules a day. You can see this at  http://www.wonderlabs.com/clear-lungs-chinese-formula-for-60-capsules_i134

Could you please let me know if these ingredients and Chinese Herbs are OK for pets?  Thank you so much!    Denise

Answer
Hi Denise
I am not familiar with this product, nor an expert in Chinese medicine.  To be completely sure you can easily contact the company and ask them.  The formula looks ok, but as I mentioned I am not that familiar with Chinese herbs and their reactions in cats.
As far as dosage goes you would need to start off with 1/4 of a capsule.  The recommended adult dose is 2 capsules.
No matter which herbal formula you choose, you would probably need to look at keeping up the dosage for about 4 months and then see how your cat is doing.
Robert McDowell also has herbal formulas for cats:

As these are specifically designed for animals you know they are perfectly safe.
Contact the manufacturer and ask them about the suitability for cats.  You will probably find that it is ok to use, but it is certainly better to be safe than sorry.
I hope this helps somewhat.
Take care,
Silva.
