Question
We are planning to relocate to Guatemala. We will be traveling through Mexico. What are the laws on traveling with dogs and will he have to be quaretined in both countries?

Answer
Dear Jeanne
Thanks much for your request for info.
Will you be driving thru Mexico, or just changing planes
there? When will this happen?  What size and type dogs do
you have? Where are you now, or will be traveling from?
General rules are: rabies vaccinations at least 30 days
old and less than one year.  Also, aphis 7001 international
health certificate issued within 10 days of travel.  And,
endorsed by usda.  I do not know if Guatemala requires an
import permit.  I will check on this.  You should contact
Guatemala consulate near you for their current requirements
as things can change fast in Latin America!  I highly
recommend microchipping; and most certainly have the pets
totally up to date on ALL vaccinations.
If you are driving, the use of bottled water ONLY, for the
pets, AND for you!
I'm sure you will have more questions.  Please keep in
touch and I will further advise you.  Have a nice move!
Sincerely, Jerry Mishler   www.actionpetexpress.com
