Question
Aloha, I am considering traveling South America with my dog.  I am wondering
if 1. This is possible 2. How much hassle is it going to be? 3. My plan at this
point is to drive everywhere and take my pet with me in the car/van--will I have
problems crossing borders, etc?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
This is very complicated, and really too much for me to do you justice.
South America just is not a place you can easily travel cross borders,
especially with a pet.
If you visit:  www.ipata.com   and visit the countries you plan to
visit.  Find if any pet shippers are in those countries and pick their
collective brains.....
If you can visit some auto road clubs, such as AAA they may have some
suggestions for you.  Embassies and consulates may help.
If you are in USA, contact the usda office in the state where you are.
They should know of any necessary vaccinations, etc you might need,
besides rabies.  Be sure to have the dog get every possible shot
available.
While traveling, use ONLY bottled water for the dog, and yourself....
Hope this helps
