Relocating from US to Greece with my puppy

Question
Hi,in one month I'm relocating to Greece with my puppy. I'm aware of the necessary paperwork needed, but I am a bit confused about the microchip. When I first brought my puppy to the vet, he got a 10 digit microchip. Will this be acceptable in Greece? I am flying with Olympic Airlines, and I was wondering if they will be able to scan this 10 digit chip.If for some reason they are not, can you please tell me what my next step will be? I am eagerly awaiting your response. Thank You!

Answer
Dear Connie
The EU is quite clear they recommend the ISO 11784 or 11785 chips
Some of the larger airports may have scanners that can read other
chips.  Otherwise, they suggest you supply your own scanner to bring
with you.  I highly recommend you re-chip your pet with above.
Be much cheaper than buying a scanner.
These chips have 15 numbers I believe.
The airline will not scan, only the vet and/or customs in Athens.
Perhaps the Greek Embassy or consulate near you can supply you with
contact info for Greek customs authorities in Athens and you can
contact them directly with your concerns.  You could try the U.S.
Embassy in Greece for this info as well.
Hope this helps
