UFO in my Marine Aquarium

Question
I have a 40 gallon reef set-up that is approximately 8 weeks old. Over the last 2 weeks several, now 100's, of small white objects have appeared on the glass. They seem to be living, moving very little. They are present 24 hours a day. What could they be? Should I be concerned? How do I eliminate them with out causing harm to my system?

Answer
Ken,
You are seeing a variety of flatworm in your tank.  These are not uncommon at all in reef aquariums.  Treat them just like a zooplankton... some species of fish (especially mandarins) and inverts will eat them.

If you notice way too many of them for your liking a simple algae cleaning and a water change generally will knock the population back a bit.

Best of luck with your aquarium!
