Question
I have this substance on my live rock it looks almost like mold/cotton.  I've seen the micro fauna and it's not web-like.  It's very solid and it's only on one rock.  This rock was also where my bubbletip anenome was attached up till about a month ago when it moved it the rock next to it.  I noticed this stuff start around three months ago and it is definatley getting larger there are probably about ten small patches on this rock now.  What do you think it is, do you think it may be dangerous?

Answer
Hello,

sorry for the delay.  I was looking for an answer for you. It sounds like it is a build-up of lime/calcium on your live rock.  I have some patches as well.  It's been there for about a year now and I have had no ill effects concerning my water quality or my fish/inverts.  I do not think it is harmful. Sorry I could not be more helpful.  Perhaps you can bring a peace of the rock to a local pet store and have a marine specialist look at it.  I was going to do that but it did not effect my tank so I held off.

Good Luck
Todd
