Fish or Invertebrates First

Question
I had saltwater tanks for about 15 years, but it was 15 years ago.  I'm starting again, and way behind the times.  My 75 gal. tank has about 35 lbs. of live rock and 100 lbs. of live sand, and THAT'S ALL.  It has cycled, and nitrites are now at zero.  I've never had live sand before, so I'm wondering if I should get some invertebrates before adding any starter fish to the tank?

Answer
Hi Jack. It is all a matter of preference as to what you want to add first. I always recommend starting very slowly with small crabs or snails. They keep any algae that may start to form in check and are hardy and relatively inexpensive. If you plan on doing a reef tank then I recommend fish next. You would want to have all your fish healthy and established in your tank before adding corals just in case there is a disease present then you wouldn't have to worry about treating it and killing the corals. So its Cleaning crew, fish, then corals. You are NOT behind on the times! Technology has advanced greatly but some of the most successful marine tanks are maintained with good biology not technology!
