Question
this is a very long question, i am afraid. i have these worm like things on the inside of 2 of my tanks. I've seen it before, on a tank with oscars, but I can't recall what it is, or how to treat it. my problem is the nature of the tanks:
29 gal, filled half way, ph 7.2, temp 76 F gravel, underwater filter, floresent light, heater, airstone, platform extending out of tank, 2 live spider plants in cups with gravel  (on platform) contains: 1 frog, 1 half frog, 1 tadpole and 1 blue lobster, 1 1/2 inches, just shed.

10 gal, full, over back filter, blue lights, heater, bubbling dino aerator, gravel, fake plants, 1 male betta, 2 small angels (less than 1 inch) 1 pleco (>1 inch) 1 zebra danio (1 inch) 4 tetra neons (> 1/2 inch, "true" neons, with full strips)

i also have a rubbermaid tank for a turtle, but that tank doesn't show any signs of it yet.
my question is:
what can i treat the 29 gal. tank with? i know many of the medications say 'not for invertabrates', (that would be the lobster?)
and what are tadpoles considered?
thank you very much for any help you can give me

Answer
Hi Jenna;

No medication will help. These worms will even survive bleach treatments. They need to be "starved out". Just lots of cleaning and less feeding is the thing to do. These little things are called "planaria" and are totally harmless to your pets. What isn't harmless is the waste they are thriving on. Vacuum the gravel twice a week in each of the affected tanks. Do this until the numbers of planaria are down to a minimum. If you cut back on food, they will slowly disappear.

Followups welcome.
