fish pond filtration

Question
Hi Chris
Im pushing the dimensions of "Aquarium" to Outdoor fishpond. I have a pond and live in Illinois, so I have to bring my fish into an inside pond I have in a greenhouse every winter. I have a pump in my inside pond that seems to do the job but I have never filtered the outside pond (approx. 550 gal).
Needless to say, it is not a very clean pond. I am thinking about putting a pump out there but when i look at pumps they show the gal/hour filtered but dont show how big a pump is required to do a satisfactory filtering job. Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer
Hi Bill;

I really don't know anything about filtering ponds. You might visit the Freshwater Fish Forum and see who could help you there. I know many of the regular posters have ponds. There is a section on just pond questions too.
