Question
         Part I
Hi well I think after using the stress coat on my killifish he is getting a little better but i have not been able to get the cycle yet. When i do get the cycle how should i administer it just squirt some in? Also most importantly my uncle said that my fish will end up infecting the others how can i prevent this without removing the fish from my tank? If he has ich how can i stop him fom giving it to the rest of the fish?
         Part II
in response to your reply to my last question I am sixteen nice house but certanly not rich. Im not sure what i will end up doing but i do enjoy making things and i think ill probably end up as a architect or designer. I like a colorful fish but size certainly matters nothing over 6-8 inches even the discus i want to get is pushing it. I do like the out of the ordinary fish tho the oddball like the butterfly fish. Not necesarily a fish tho a cool shrimp like the fan shrimp. What i kinda think of but dont take to seriously is finding some extrememly rare little fish that is all black or real colorful or something like that. As for personality I dont enjoy a fish that hides all day and i really like a fish that wont swim away even if i tap the glass in front of him. That aside I also think of getting a fresh water sponge, or a diffferant plant like organism. What i absolutely hate is stupid fancy goldfish or mollies the fish that dont even have a solid coloring. Im trying to make my tank balanced in every color. Do you know of any critter ive probably never heard of? Also what is the rarest fresh water fish/critter. Lastly does the gravel affect the way ur fish look at all, I have a small stone brownish variation gravel with stupid black gravel I regreted mixing in.
If i could wish for one critter it would definately be a big octopus
P.S.
What did you use to have in your fishy days and what did u wish u could have.

Answer
Hi Lou,
Good to hear from you.
Part I: Get the Cycle! If your water is healthy, the sick fish will not infect the others. Get the Cycle, get the Cycle, get the Cycle. Yeah, it's expensive, but it will help the tank. After you open it, keep it in the refrigerator. There are live beneficial bacteria in the Cycle. You just pour some in the water and the bacteria go around eating up pollution. Follow the instructions on the bottle.
Part II: I guess that I never answered this question. My concern is that you are only 16 but you want to do everything at once! I say, keep ordinary fish until you have aquarium care down to a science. Otherwise, you risk losing the fish to disease, mistakes, etc.
One of my high school friends (yes, I was young once) used to keep eels. They were amazing. He had them for years, but then gave up the hobby after he accidentally dropped the hood in the water and everybody died because of being electrocuted.
So, I usppose that if I got an aquarium and wanted to keep exotic fish, it would be eels.
Yes, an octopus would be nice too.
Meanwhile, love the fish you have. That's my best advice.
re. gravel. Just go with what you have now. There's no sense in changing out the gravel once the tank is set up. I predict that you will be a fantastic architect or designer. You will have many aquariums. Next time (a few years from now) choose a color of gravel you have not tried yet.
Life is short, but it takes a long time. You have plenty of time left.
You might consider majoring in Ocenography in college, then you can learn how to keep the fish and coral reefs in the real enviornment alive. Just an idea.
