Question
Hi;

By mistake I bought some fantail goldfish, 2 calico, and a black moor. Question, I also have one of those algae eaters, can these species live in the same tank, they do now, I keep the water temp @ 68 degrees, and can it be dropped to a cooler temp that goldfish tolerate better, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Bill

Answer
Hi Bill
Do you happen to know what kind of algae eater it is?  A pleco, chinese algae eater, oto cat?

How large is the tank?

Don't drop the water temp for now.  Anymore lower, and you shouldn't be feeding the goldies regular food.  Usually around 65 F you're supposed to start feeding them wheat germ; too much protein(flakes and pellet food) and their slower metabolism(colder water) will cause problems for them digesting the food-which will cause the food to rot in their bellies.  Goldfish will do well at 68-74F.  I have mine in a pond that gets a lot warmer then that.

Ok, I have to ask....How did you by mistake buy goldfish?  lol

Let me know on those algae eaters if you can, or at least a good description of them to figure out what it is.
