Small Black Moor

Question
Hi Jaymie,
I have a small black moor (his name is Kreacher) in a 10-gallon tank. He has been there for about 5 weeks because initially it was a hospital tank after his fins and tail had been eaten off by an overly-agressive koi fish. I was using Melafix and he was recovering great for a few weeks, in fact his tail and fins are still regrowing and look great. However, a few weeks ago I noticed Kreacher was beginning to swim on his side and didn't seem to have much coordination. After a few more days of this I figured it was Swim Bladder issues, and so I fasted him for 4 days. I fed him 2 cooked shelled peas cut into tiny pieces and fasted him for another 2 days. It didn't work, so I tried the peas again. It still did not work. I also tried doing a water change and adding salt, and that didn't do anything either. I then did extensive research and the only other conclusion I could reasonably come to was that it was bacteria, so I bought Maracyn one and Maracyn Two and began treating his tank. Around the same time I started the Maracyn I noticed there was something growing on the decorations in his tank. I removed the decorations, unsure if it was dangerous to him or not. I saw that little white moldy-looking spots were growing on the walls of his tank as well, but I was already a day into the Maracyn and couldn't make a water change. Today was the last day for the Maracyn treatment and nothing has seemed to change. 2 or 3 days ago I noticed that he is always floating on his right side, and there appears to be two lumps there. He has not pooped (that I have seen or have picked up in the filter) in quite a while, and I think this may mean he is constipated. But because the peas did not work, I don't know what else to do other than fast him. This will be his third day without food, but I am very worried I will starve him if I keep fasting him. Is this permanent, or is there something else I can do? When can I start water changes?
Also, I am moving in a few days. I am very scared to move him at all in case it stresses him out more and he dies.. He is my favorite and I love him but I just don't know what to do!

Answer
Corinne,
Usually with swim bladder they swim sideways, upside down, and in circles. With him laying on his side, I am thinking it is a water issue. Since you used the medication, did you remove the carbon in the filter? If it is not removed the carbon removes the medication from the tank. If you did not remove it, do it now and treat again with both medications. A lot of people that used the two, use them at the same time. What are you ammonia and nitrite levels? I believe the directions say to do a large water change after the last dose. I am not sure, however, because I do not use them, but it should say on the packaging. When you move him, since he is ill, keep him in the tank. Put the aquarium on the floor in the front seat. Take out most of the water leaving only enough to cover him. If you are traveling more than 4 hours, you will want to do a water change. There is a product out there call quICK Cure by AP. The directions say 1 drop per gallon. When ever I add new fish, or move them, I add this to their water. It will tint the water blue, but it works great.
