Growing guppies

Question
The guppy fry are five weeks old now. Last week they developed black marks on their tails (just like their mother), but otherwise they are still plain. Does this mean that they will not develop any colors, or is it too soon to tell?

How old are they, typically, before you can tell the females and males apart?

Answer
Hello Again Janet!
Don't worry, they will still develop colors. Black markings seem to come first, then more brilliant colors.

Usually to try and differ males from females the gups have to be a couple of months old. It depends on their growth rate so I am not exactly for certain. Maybe a month and a half. You'll know and it usually begins to show when the gups are just under an inch.

I hope this helps! Feel free to talk 'fish' anytime!

Best wishes and take care,
Karen~
