white stuff on outside of tank, by filter

I have a 55 gal aquarium, and just recently i have noticed a lot of white buildup on the outside of the hood of my tank, it is mostly located around the filter and moving outwards from there. it feels kind of chalky and looks like chalk too. Please Help!

A lot of people get this, it typically is just an lime build up which is common with aquariums. It won't hurt anything aside from not being very eye pleasing. You can get a product call Lime Away which will help get rid of it or simply use hot water and make sure they surface is clean, with the hot water you will need to probably wash it more than once but it will lessen the lime.
